Dermal Roller/Medical Skin Needling

Dermaroller Therapy (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is a form of advanced micro-medical skin needling – a procedure that stimulates the skin to naturally regenerate and repair itself, resulting in youthful, brighter and healthier skin.

The Derma Roller treatment can also be used on both women and men and can help to combat the following:

  • Anti-ageing
  • Wrinkles
  • Cellulite treatment/cellulite reduction or removal
  • Hair Loss Treatment/Hair Restoration
  • HyperPigmentation Treatment as a result of scarring
  • Scar Removal – including acne scar removal
  • Skin Smoothing
  • Stretch Mark Removal

What is a medical Dermaroller?

A dermaroller is a cylindrical shaped drum studded with very fine needles. This precision engineered, hand-held medical device helps to combat the appearance of some of the most common skin problems and works to encourage the collagen and elastin production – resulting in a smooth and even tone. It is also a single-use sterile device.

How does the treatment work?

In order for our skin to retain it’s smooth and healthy glow, it must be continuously replenished with new cells – which can be encouraged by both the Derma Roller and Collagen Induction Therapy.

The treatment involves the process of the derma rollers’ fine medical-grade needles being rolled over your skin, causing the pores in your skin to open temporarily. Whilst open, this will trigger your body’s natural healing process to heal the pores thereby stimulating collagen and elastin production – reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

Once the dermaroller has been applied simultaneously with nourishing creams, your skin’s absorption of vitamins, enzymes, lipids and other nourishing ingredients are greatly enhanced.

In approximately one to two hours after the application of the dermaroller, these micro-channels will close fully due to the body’s natural healing process, providing just enough time for new collagen structures to form within the skin’s lower layers – yet enough recovery time to ensure the resumption of your normal schedule.

By continuously triggering the body’s natural healing process this way, your skin constantly stimulates collagen and the elastin production needed to help restore and remodel your skin on a cosmetic level.

We must also note that the skin will be thoroughly cleansed and a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to numb the skin to ensure that you’re comfortable during the procedure.

What is the difference between Dermaroler and other Skin Rejuvenation Techniques?

In contrast to abrasive techniques (such as laser and fractional laser treatments), the Dermaroller stimulates new tissue formation – acting constructively and keeping the skin intact. The skin is pricked by the fine needles, encouraging the growth of new skin cells as the wound heals responsively. This technique also significantly improves facial scarring and skin texture.

How many treatments are required?

The length of the course of treatments is heavily reliant on the strength and type of therapy, to which you can find these listed below:

Collagen Induction Therapy: We recommend you start with three treatments with a minimum separation time of six to eight weeks between each one.

Scar Reduction Therapy: An average of three to five treatments are recommended. However, there you will see a significant improvement in the appearance of the skin following your first treatment. Our nurse will assess your skin during your complimentary consultation and we will tailor your course of treatments to suit your individual needs.

Downtime and Aftercare

Following your therapy, your skin will have a similar appearance to when moderate sunburn arsies and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. However, this is perfectly normal and will start to subside after one to two hours and will recover normally within the same day with only a slight hint of redness remaining till the following day.

Our fully-qualified nurse will also apply a nourishing cream after the procedure to help soothe and calm the skin – and we will also provide you with the adequate aftercare for at home use. You must also keep your skin clean for 24-48 hours after treatment and avoid applying any skincare products.

Medical Dermaroller Therapy must also only be carried out by trained medical practitioners.
