Laser Hair Removal
It is common knowledge that a laser is used to remove hair, but how exactly? Essentially, the hair (specifically the melanin) absorbs light that is emitted by a laser. This light energy then converts into heat, which then damages the hair follicles (responsible for producing hair). The damage caused by the laser delays or inhibits hair growth.
For laser hair removal to be effective, the hair follicle must be attached to the bulb (the one underneath the skin). And not all follicles are at that stage of hair growth. This is one of the main reasons why it usually takes a couple of sessions for laser hair removal to take effect.
Will It hurt? Here at Fresh Faced Aesthetics we can use ice packs in conjunction with our Laser to ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible. This numbs the skin before, during and after the treatment. Obviously different areas of the body are more sensitive than others but any discomfort is minimised and short lived with some people describing the sensation as being like a pin prick. During your Consultation you will receive a Patch Test so you will get a chance to experience how the Laser feels on your skin.
How many appointments will I need? Agreeing to a course of Laser is the best way to maximise your results. The hair follicle moves through three phases and when it is in the Anagen (growth) phase we are able to use the laser to interrupt the blood supply to the follicle and achieve the best results. The need to schedule treatments to coincide with the growth cycle of the hair follicle is why the sessions are spaced out accordingly. All areas of the body have different hair growth cycles but as a general rule, youâll need anything between 10 â 12 sessions,  4 to 6 weeks apart with the possibility of the odd yearly top up.Â
